Me: I love restaurants. And this is what I did about it: I quit entertainment journalism. I enrolled in wine school. I slung eggs for brunch. I dropped stock, I cared for purslane, I took inventory of the walk-in. For eighteen months, I got paid to write about all that food I ate in all those restaurants. There was also that tiki bar — but that was, of course, before I was running a Peruvian cantina. Now, look for me in Mid-City: I’m either expediting pig’s ears or hoarding little lobster rolls.

This is my story. I live in Venice, Calif., and I’m still a writer.
